Al Khanif has been appointed as the chair of the Graduate Law School since March 2025 besides still chairing The Center for Human Rights, Multiculturalism and Migration (CHRM2), University of Jember since 2017. He completed his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Jember in 2003, then earned a Master of Arts (MA) from the Center for Religious and Cross Cultural Studies (CRCS Universitas Gadjah Mada) in 2006. A year later, he received a Chevening Scholarship from the British Government to continue his education. to the Master of Laws (LLM) level with a concentration on war law and human rights at Lancaster University, UK 2008. His doctoral degree in law was obtained from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London 2016. Apart from teaching, Al Khanif is also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Southeast Asian Human Rights (JSEAHR) at the University of Jember; consultant to the Directorate of Services for Indigenous Peoples and Believers of the Ministry of Education and Culture 2021; and the head of research on Qanun Aceh funded by KOMNAS HAM from 2020 to 2021. Some of his writings have been published in The Jakarta Post, Jawa Pos, and Kompas Newspapers. His last published book is Marginalisation and Human Rights in Southeast Asia published by Routledge London in 2022.
